The chocolate factory was founded by Wilhelm Kaiser on 22nd May 1901 on the industrial tray of "Pérolles", located at that time on the territory of the commune of Villars-sur-Glâne. The company was renamed Villars SA in 1904 and is now based in the city of Fribourg
The Villars Chocolat factory building in Fribourg is one of the cultural assets of national importance in the canton of Fribourg.
In the 1920s, the company employed around 1,200 people. After the Second World War only around 400 and in 2000 around 100. Now the factory employs around 140 staff members.
